Inpatient occupational therapy services are typically provided at bedside. We work with you to maximum your activities of daily living and safety during your hospital stay.  We make recommendations regarding your discharge from LGH, and work closely with a multidisciplinary team – including, but not limited to physicians, nurses, and case managers – to facilitate a seamless transition home with additional services if necessary.

Outpatient Occupational Therapy

Outpatient therapy is provided at our Regional Center for Rehabilitation Services, located at 25 Marston Street, Suite 106, Lawrence, MA – just a quarter of a mile away from the main Lawrence General campus.  A physician’s order is required for all treatment. We are also located at Andover Medical Center, 323 Lowell Street, Andover, MA.

A comprehensive evaluation by a licensed occupational therapist will be completed on your initial appointment.  Following evaluation, a treatment plan will be tailored to your individual needs.  Therapy consists of one-on-one treatment provided in a private treatment area or in our state-of-the-art gym overlooking the Merrimack River.

Hand Therapy

Hand therapy is a specialty practice of occupational therapy, is typically concerned with treating upper extremity conditions to optimize the functional use of the hand and arm. We work closely with our orthopedic surgeons to ensure the best recovery following your surgery.  An occupation-based, client-centered approached ensures you will be able to do what is meaningful in your daily life.  Services include: hand splinting, strengthening and range of motion exercise programs, functional skills retraining, sensory retraining and scar management.
