If you’ve ever been told by your wife or husband that your snoring is waking her or him up at night, you may be one of the 50-70 million Americans who suffer from a chronic sleep disorder. Snoring may seem like a fairly benign condition, and typically it is. But it can also be indicative of a more serious sleep problem that cannot only affect your health, but the quality and even the longevity of your life.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of sleep disorders go untested and undiagnosed. They may include insomnia, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder.
The most common sleep disorder is a condition known as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Untreated, OSA can lead to chronic fatigue, potential hypertension, heart problems, diabetes and more. It may also be the cause of the snoring that’s keeping your significant other up at night.
The Sleep Center at Lawrence General Hospital was founded in 2010 to give patients easy, convenient access to a full range of diagnostic testing capabilities and clinical evaluation for disorders of this kind. We are a “quick to be seen, quick results” sleep facility, which differentiates us from most other centers in the Merrimack Valley and even in Boston. The Sleep Center team is made up of experts in pulmonology, otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat) and sleep medicine assisted by clinical staff and client service professionals. Patients who undergo testing typically stay overnight in a patient-friendly, four-suite facility that features comfortable private bedrooms with full-size bed and TV. However, we can also accommodate sleep studies in your own home as well.
The goal of the center is to offer timely access to testing, diagnosing and treating sleep conditions that are adversely affecting patients’ daily living.
